Oakland Real Estate
Oakland California is a major hub of activity for the San Francisco Bay Area. Less than ten miles east of San Francisco, Oakland’s central location near the Bay Bridge, proximity to several major East Bay freeways, and convenient public transportation makes for a direct, uncomplicated commute between Oakland and San Francisco or other Bay Area cities.
Although Oakland has a somewhat rough-and-tumble reputation, it is, in reality, a sophisticated city with a rich history. Gracious neighborhoods with distinctive architecture and homes designed by renowned architects including Julia Morgan, Bernard Maybeck, and Carr Jones are tucked up in the Oakland Hills. Sequoyah Hills (also called Sequoyah Heights) is of particular interest to mid-century modern enthusiasts. This community, which was developed in the 1960s and ‘70s, is best known for its development of homes built by Joseph Eichler. Sequoyah Hills/Heights is one of only four Eichler developments in the East Bay.
As a major West Coast port with miles of coastline, Oakland CA has a vibrant, exciting waterfront. One hundred years ago Jack London Square was a shipping yard. Today Jack London Square is a hip new destination with trendy lofts, contemporary condos, stylish modern homes and exciting shopping, dining, and entertainment. Another up-and-coming waterfront area is West Oakland.
This neighborhood has a gritty reputation, but the conversion of factories and warehouses into lofts, and old Victorians that have been provided some TLC, is giving this area a boost.
